Whatever positive feelings Tim may have had about his predecessor, I doubt many remained after that assault. This was calculated from start to finish. This isn’t about Tim as a person–it’s about all that Tim represents, and Jason makes no effort to differentiate between those two.Īs a parting message, Jason writes, “JASON TODD WAS HERE” in Tim’s blood (?). ![]() Even though Tim is down, Jason goes for one more hit. Jason is absolutely brutal in this fight. Jason is clearly trying to prove something to both himself and Tim, and he believes this can be accomplished by beating Tim bloody. However, this doesn’t slow down either of them in this fight. Tim tries to correct Jason’s assumption that no one remembered him, because Tim of all people would know that Bruce never forget Jason. Throughout their fight, Jason emphasizes that Tim is supposedly the “better” Robin, which frustrates him. Their first conversation reveals that Jason also resents Tim for living in luxury while Jason struggled to survive on the streets as a young child after his mother died of an overdose. He didn’t just run into Tim in Gotham and go berserk he bought/made a replacement Robin uniform, tracked Tim down, and went through the trouble of sneaking past security. Jason breaks into Titans Tower solely to assault Tim, the Robin who replaced him. Most of these comics are OOC garbage, but they’re all we have for these two, and each interaction carries into the next.Įxhibit A: their very first meeting, in Teen Titans volume 3 #29. This is demonstrated both by Winick’s interview, released toward the end of Pre52, and by literally every single interaction they’ve had in Pre52.īelow the cut are Exhibits A-F, analyzing each interaction they’ve had. While they are best bros in the New52 (because Tim was never Robin, and thus didn’t “replace” Jason, and both of them have rather different personalities), they are not so in the Pre52. I’ve grown increasingly frustrated over the past year as people try to tell me that Pre52 Jason and Tim were remotely friendly towards one another when I mention otherwise in my posts. ![]()
